What an agency needs to do to become a Certified Cell Phone Drop-Off site:

1. Complete an application and submit it by mail or fax to John Mazzucco (Tel: 813-5404) of the Westchester County Recycling Office, 270 North Avenue (6th Floor), New Rochelle, NY 10801. (Fax: 813-5460).  The reason for certifying cell phone drop off sites is to ensure that all the collected cell phones and related components are indeed recycled, and not disposed of in the garbage.
2. Once you are certified, you will get a certificate which should be displayed for people disposing their used cell phones with you.
3. Certified Cell Phone Drop-Off Sites need to file an annual report with the County Recycling Office. The report, due the last business day in January, simply asks how the collected phones were managed, and an estimated number of cell phones collected.

To Become a Verizon Wireless HopeLine Cell Phone Drop-Off Site:

1. If you would like recycling proceeds to go to Verizon Wireless' HopeLine project to benefit domestic violence victims, contact the John Mazzucco of the County Recycling Office by e-mail or by phone at 813-5404. The Recycling Office will issue you a collection box, program poster and a Cell Phone Drop-Off Site Certificate, all to be displayed for people disposing of cell phones with you.
2.. Place the box, poster and certificate in a secure public location. When the collection box is nearly full with cell phones and related equipment (e.g., chargers, etc.), call (914) 813-5441 for a shipping label for pick up and discuss your plan for continued participation.
3. As a Certified Cell Phone Drop-Off Site you are asked to file an annual report with the County Recycling Office. The report, due the last business day in January, simply asks for an estimation of the number of cell phones collected.
