In 2004, the Westchester County Department of Planning developed a report on the county’s major employers. A list of companies is available by municipality or SIC (Standard Industrial Classification) code. The 2008 Major Employers report should be published this spring.

The 2004 report showed that Westchester County offers the business community a dynamic and diversified environment as witnessed by:

• Nearly 34,000 firms in the County
• More than $17.0 billion in annual payroll
• Approximately 400,000 employees
• Westchester County is the Headquarters location of more than 170 businesses
• More than 10.0% of the nation’s patents originate from companies based in Westchester County.
