2009 Budget
Focus on Proposed 2009 County Budget Review

Board of Elections
Some of the larger budgetary consequences for the Board of Elections in 2009 result from the state mandate to use the Sequoia voting machine (as part of the 2002 federal Help America Vote Act, HAVA). The department's proposed budget includes an increase in salaries of $1.191 million, reflecting 18 needed additional positions, an increase of $385,000 for voter education and an additional $349,594 for buildings and space to house the mandated machines.

Law
The county’s Law Department manages all the civil law business for the county and its departments. Its proposed 2009 budget of $13.35 represents a 2.2 % decrease from last year’s budget. Staffing will be reduced by one position, from its current level of 111 to 110 in 2009. Full Story

Human Resources
The department’s proposed 2009 budget of $5.788 million represents a modest increase of less than $200,000 over its 2008 budget, adding one staff position to centralize administration of the Family Medical Leave Act, which has undergone numerous modifications and enhancements. Full Story
