Proposed 2009 County Budget Headed for Legislative Review

County Board Chair Bill Ryan (D-I-WF, White Plains) and County Legislator José Alvarado (D-Yonkers), Chair of the Budget & Appropriations Committee, said the 2009 proposed $1.77 billion reflects the reality of challenging economic times.

“Declining revenues have shaped this budget,” said Alvarado. “Though spending is actually $100,000 less than 2008 levels, the drop in the mortgage tax collections, state aid and interest income amounts to over $26 million. As part of our review, we will be scrutinizing the projected revenue side very closely..."

Alvarado said that, in addition to commenting on the budget at scheduled public hearings, members of the public were welcome to sit in on the Budget Committee’s department reviews which start on Monday. Full Story
