HISTORY
U.S.
Department of State
The
United States State Department, Office of International
Information Programs, maintains a website dedicated to
African-American history. The site was established to assist
its international audience in acquiring information on the
rich and varied contributions of African Americans to the
culture and history of the United States and the world. It
also includes documents, articles, Internet sites and other
resources which honor and acknowledge the accomplishments of
African Americans.
The
Schomburg Center
A research center of the New York Public Library, the
Schomberg is devoted to collecting, preserving and providing
access to resources documenting the experiences of peoples
of African descent throughout the world. The Schomburg
Center promotes the study of these histories and cultures of
the peoples and interprets its collections through
exhibitions, publications, and educational, scholarly and
cultural programs. This site includes information on the
Center's various divisions: art and artifacts; general
research and reference; manuscripts, archives and rare
books; moving image and recorded sound; and photographs and
prints. It also contains links to other Internet sources of
information on Africa and the African diaspora.
The
African-American Mosaic
This website from the Library of Congress includes an exhibition that traces black history from the colonization
of North America to Abolition to post-World War II
migration.
Encyclopedia
Britannica: Guide to Black History
This
website examines nearly 400 years of African-American
history through five distinct time periods, from the
struggles of slavery through the successes of the Civil
Rights Movement.

NAACP
Formed
in 1909, the National Association for the Advancement of
Colored People (NAACP) is the nation's oldest and largest
civil rights organization.
Started by a multiracial group of progressive
thinkers, the NAACP is a non-profit organization established
with the objective of insuring the political, educational,
social and economic equality of minority groups.

Urban League
The Urban League is the nation’s oldest and largest
community-based movement empowering African Americans to
enter the economic and social mainstream
.
Congressional
Black Caucus
The CBC is comprised of
African-American members of the U.S. House of
Representatives. Founded in 1970, it addresses legislative
concerns of African Americans and other minority citizens,
such as employment, welfare reform, minority business
development, and expanded educational opportunities. The
Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (est. 1976) conducts
research on issues affecting African Americans, publishes a
yearly report on key legislation, and sponsors issue forums,
leadership seminars, and scholarships.
Joint
Center for Political and Economic Studies
The Joint Center for Political and
Economic Studies informs and illuminates the nation's major
public policy debates through research, analysis, and
information dissemination in order to: improve the
socioeconomic status of black Americans and other
minorities; expand their effective participation in the
political and public policy arenas; and promote
communications and relationships across racial and ethnic
lines to strengthen the nation's pluralistic society.

is an online community for African Americans. The
website includes employment resources and job
listings, dating links, personal money management tools and
a vast array of information related to the African American
community.

Entertainment
BET is the leading African American
multi-media entertainment company. BET provides quality
entertainment and information to the growing African
American consumer base using a variety of media properties.
BET, Inc. is a subsidiary of Viacom, Inc.
Black
Voices.com
Portal offers chat clubs, member searches, Afrocentric
greeting cards, member photos, and other miscellaneous
services. Content is a bit buried on this site, but covers
the main topics of Black news today, careers, sports,
entertainment, book reviews, cars, and an events search.

Community Partnership
Initiative
Each
year, the Partnership
identifies black
students who maintain a
3.0 GPA or better throughout their high school career and recognizes them as Black Scholars.

United
Negro College Fund
The
United Negro College Fund is the nation's oldest and most
successful minority higher education assistance
organization. UNCF
awards scholarships to students attending historically black
colleges and universities and majority institutions and also
supports faculty members through programs offering grants
for research and dissertation completion.
A
Better Chance
A Better Chance was founded in 1963 with an emphasis on substantially
increasing the number of well-educated
minority youth capable of assuming positions of
responsibility and leadership in American society. Through a
range of programs, A Better Chance works with students of
color -- from the sixth grade through college -- to help them
access expanded educational and career opportunities. This
website also includes a detailed list of scholarship opportunities
for elementary to college-aged minority students.
Black
Issues in Higher Education
Black
Issues is the nation's only news magazine dedicated
exclusively to minority issues in higher education.
Published bi-weekly, Black Issues brings in-depth and
up-to-date coverage of the diverse education community,
including African Americans, Native Americans, Asian
Americans and Hispanic Americans, as well as Americans with
disabilities and women, to every college and university in
the United States.
