FISHER PRICE TOY CHARACTER RECALL

Lead danger from surface paints on toys

Westchester County is alerting everyone that the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has asked Fisher Price to recall almost one million Dora the Explorer, Sesame Street and other kid-favorite character toys. The surface paints used on the toys contain an excessive level of lead.

Parents and others should immediately take these toys away from young kids and should contact Fisher Price at (800) 916-4498 for more information on how to return the product.

The toy recall is the second biggest this year involving toys and covers 83 products made from April 19 to July 6.

Lead can cause neurological and motors delays, particularly in young children who are still developing. Lead poisoning can cause mental retardation, seizures and in severe cases, death. Government regulations prohibited the use of lead in paint after 1978 because of it can be a health hazard. These toys were made in China.
