FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                                            April 11, 2008

County Executive Andy Spano issued the following statement in the aftermath of the defacing of property at the Mohegan Park Jewish Center in Lake Mohegan Thursday:

“We have zero-tolerance for these kinds of acts of hatred and bigotry. Every time I hear of one of these incidents, it’s a reminder anew of how vigilant we have to be in addressing each and every such incident.  Young and old must understand how unacceptable this is. And this must be accomplished by both education and criminal prosecution, when appropriate. The executive director of the Westchester County Human Rights Commission stands ready to assist the community.”

Spano said he expects to participate in a rally against bigotry April 13 at 2 p.m. at 1688 Decatur Road (East of Lexington Ave - between Rt. 6 and Rt. 202) .
