MAKE A COMMITMENT TO DO YOUR PART TO HELP STOP GLOBAL WARMING

Sign pledge at county Web site; attend public forum March 11

There’s a lot of talk about stopping global warming, but people need to commit to doing their part.

Go to www.westchestergov.com/globalwarming  and pledge to take action to help halt climate change.

Looking for what you can do? On the Web section, you can read the county’s overall Global Warming Action Plan and download the specific guides  targeted for residents, businesses, schools or local governments.

“The Task Force on Global Warming that I appointed released its action plan last week,” said County Executive Andy Spano. “Now is the time for everyone to begin acting.”

Westchester residents seeming more information are invited to a public forum at Westchester Community College, Tuesday, March 11 from 7-9 p.m. The event will take place in the Classroom Building on the college’s Valhalla Campus, 75 Grasslands Road.

Spano and members of the task force will present details of the Action Plan, and will solicit feedback from the public. The Action Plan has both short-term and long-term recommendations. The countywide goal is to reduce Westchester’s emission of greenhouse gases by 20 percent by 2015 and by 80 percent by 2050.

“There are things everyone can do – and can begin doing immediately,” Spano said.
