Mission Statement:
Community Housing Innovations, Inc's (CHI) mission is to provide low and moderate income families with the housing and human services that enable them to achieve the greatest social and economic independence at the lowest cost to society. CHI fulfills this mission by providing the full continuum of housing, including transitional apartments for homeless families, a rental assistance program, over 500 units of affordable rental housing, and a first time Home Buyers program. CHI housing has been enhanced with eviction prevention assistance, Social Services to assist families obtain self-sufficiency and a Career Services Division. CHI also runs two youth programs for homeless children held in conjunction with the Mt. Vernon and Yonkers Police Departments to build their sense of community and stability. CHI continually seeks to fill community needs.
Computer Equipment Needs:
CHI Career Services is providing free computer classes to the general community for those who have an income under 200% of the federal poverty line. On weekends, these hard working, low income people will be receiving hardware and software training and may become certified as A+ PC Technicians. This education may double the participant's income, which will help their families remain self-sufficient. CHI would like to give computers to the class graduates. Their skills need to remain sharp in today's economy. 20 graduates per class are expected.

CHI provides emergency housing for homeless families throughout Westchester. Three-quarters of the people housed in this program are children. Because of their instability, homeless children are at great risk of absenteeism, repeating grades, low academic performance and dropping out. Parents also need vocational skills and tools. Taking a course on Microsoft Office will not help them get a job if they can not practice and improve learned skills. CHI would also like to provide computers to these 50 homeless families to help reduce the academic and digital divide which both the adults and children in these families face.

CHI is seeking IBM compatible computers with at least Mindows 95, a 56K modem and a Pentium I processor, and/or Macintosh Power PC with at least a 603 processor.
