Mission Statement:
PCES Family Literacy Partnership's mission is to help break the cycle of poverty and illiteracy by improving th educational opportunities of the nation's low-income families by integrating early childhood education, adult literacy and or basic literacy skills, and parenting education into a unified family literacy program. Our program offers these activities in our Family Education Center and in families' homes. The program is free and is open to all most-in-need Port Chester families with at least one child 0-7 years.
Computer Equipment Needs:
PC Even Start has initiated a Family Technology Project whereby each family will receive a computer in their home. We are looking for the following equipment: 586 Pentium, 16MB, 3 drives(hard, floppy, CD Rom), 33.bps-modem and keyboards, printers, mouse & necessary cables. We were awarded a grant by the Junior League on the Sound allowing us to pay a former EVEN START parent to provide technical assistance in our families' homes. Research has shown families who are initially interested in computer literacy probably lose interest because they don't have technical assistance and they don't have continuous training to keep learning more computer skills.
