POOL PARTY & BARBECUE FOR SENIORS Westchester County senior citizens are invited to spend the day poolside as they enjoy an old-fashioned barbecue and a variety of entertainment during a Pool Party and Barbecue on Wednesday, September 10, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Saxon Woods Pool in White Plains. Rain date is Thursday, September 11. Sponsored by Westchester County Parks and the county’s Department of Senior Programs and Services, this annual pool party is open to all residents of Westchester County age 60 and older. As always, seniors are welcome to bring their young grandchildren for a day of fun. Lifeguards will be on duty so everyone can enjoy a final swim for the season. And, since the pool will be officially closed for the season, seniors and youngsters can have the pool for their exclusive use. In addition to the main swimming pool, Saxon Woods Pool also features a spray playground that can be enjoyed by youngsters and seniors alike. The park also includes the special “Andy’s Place” playground that is handicapped accessible for children with special needs and is fun for kids of all ages. Live entertainment will be provided by Stages, a five-piece band that will play a variety of genres. There will also be an instructional Water Aerobics fitness demonstration for those who like to keep fit, as well as a Senior Sez Trivia game. A delicious all-American-style barbecue lunch, with chicken, tossed salad and potato salad, juice and dessert will be available. Seating at Saxon Woods Pool is limited; participants are encouraged to bring chairs for seating on the lawn and pool deck. Seniors will also be able to play a free round of miniature golf on the park’s 18-hole championship course, courtesy of Powell Catering. Admission and parking for the event are free; a Westchester County Park Pass is not required for entry to the pool. Suggested lunch contribution is $3 for seniors and $4 for children. Participants may begin placing their lunch orders on Monday, August 3; deadline for orders is Friday, August 29. Saxon Woods Pool is located at 1800 Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains. It can be reached via the Hutchinson River Parkway, north or south, exit 23 North/White Plains. The park is ¼ mile ahead on the left. Saxon Woods Pool is accessible to the disabled. The pool can also be reached via the Westchester County BEE-LINE bus system.
