Farm-based pre-school and after-school educational programs for youth

Two sessions of interactive classes focused on farm life and nature will be held for children this spring at Hilltop Hanover Farm in Yorktown. Classes are designed for pre-school and school-age children up to age 12. Topics include outdoor adventures, life on the farm, yoga in nature, rhythms of the forest, the music of nature and natural art and design.

“Something Good in the World ‘Earth School’” workshops are based on a philosophy of the integration of learning with nature and the outdoors, along with arts-oriented, sensory, whole body experiences, and are designed for all kinds of learners. Educators are trained professionals with extensive experience and a passion for sharing nature and the arts with children.

Session one begins the week of March 31; session two starts May 5 and each session runs for four weeks. Classes are offered on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Tuition starts at $65 per four-week session. Classes for pre-schoolers are held in mornings and early afternoon, school-age children attend in the late afternoons.

Hilltop Hanover Farm and Environmental Center, owned and operated by Westchester County, is a 50-acre working farm, with open pastures and beautiful woodlands. The center promotes sustainable agricultural and environmental education at the farm through demonstrations and educational events. It is located at 1271 Hanover Street in Yorktown Heights.

All classes are held outdoors, rain or shine, and in the classrooms at the Children’s Environmental Education Center, Building “C.”
