Who can adopt?
Any civic-minded organization, business or individual can adopt Westchester County parkland. Participants must be at least 12 years old; participants under that age must have parental consent.

How much work will it be?
It is up to you. Groups commit for a minimum of four work sessions a year at their chosen park site. The program is flexible and can be tailored to the group’s needs and interests.

What projects can my group undertake?
A wide range of projects can he undertaken by adopters, including the addition of gardens, painting, erecting structures, removing graffiti and litter, clearing trails, pruning, preparing and planting flower beds, tree plantings, weeding, monitoring wildlife and other approved projects that would enhance the beauty of the park.

How does my group benefit from Adopt-a-Park?
The County Parks Department will erect a sign at the adopted park to acknowledge the group’s contribution and commitment to the program. In addition, volunteer groups and organizations will derive great satisfaction from being stewards of the County Park system and enjoy the knowledge that they are making a difference.

How can the Parks Department help us?
The department will work closely with participating groups and organizations to coordinate and help advance the project.

What is my first step in adopting a park?
Complete the attached application form and mail to Adopt-a-Park Coordinator, 25 Moore Avenue, Mount Kisco, NY 10549 or call 914-864-7054 for more information. Adopters will be required to sign an adoption agreement.

What are my tasks after the project proposal is approved?
You will coordinate the project with the appropriate park staff, organize your volunteers and provide supplies as needed for the work. Upon project completion, submit a ‘Beautification Activity Report” to the Parks Superintendent.

Are there safety guidelines?
Yes. Adopters will be required to follow guidelines established by the Parks Department for their safety. They will be asked to agree to these guidelines in their adoption agreement.
