Who
can adopt?
Any civic-minded
organization, business or in dividual can adopt Westchester County
parkland. Participants must be at least 12 years old; participants under
that age must have parental consent.How
much work will it be?
It is up to you.
Groups commit for a minimum of four work sessions a year at their chosen
park site. The program is flexible and can be tailored to the group’s
needs and interests.
What
projects can my group undertake?
A wide range of
projects can he undertaken by adopters, including the addition of
gardens, painting, erecting structures, removing graffiti and litter,
clearing trails, pruning, preparing and planting flower beds, tree
plantings, weeding, monitoring wildlife and other approved projects that
would enhance the beauty of the park.
How
does my group benefit from Adopt-a-Park?
The County Parks
Department will erect a sign at the adopted park to acknowledge the
group’s contribution and commitment to the program. In addition,
volunteer groups and organizations will derive great satisfaction from
being stewards of the County Park system and enjoy the knowledge that
they are making a difference.
How
can the Parks Department help us?
The department
will work closely with participating groups and organizations to
coordinate and help advance the project.
What
is my first step in adopting a park?
Complete the
attached application form and mail to Adopt-a-Park Coordinator, 25 Moore
Avenue, Mount Kisco, NY 10549 or call 914-864-7054 for more information.
Adopters will be required to sign an adoption agreement.
What
are my tasks after the project proposal is approved?
You will
coordinate the project with the appropriate park staff, organize your
volunteers and provide supplies as needed for the work. Upon project
completion, submit a ‘Beautification Activity Report” to the Parks
Superintendent.
Are
there safety guidelines?
Yes. Adopters
will be required to follow guidelines established by the Parks
Department for their safety. They will be asked to agree to these
guidelines in their adoption agreement.
