TRAIN PASSENGER WATCH

 

Suspicious Package:

  • (provide a picture or description to go along with it)

  • A package abandoned by a person quickly leaving the area

  • Left next to a phone booth, vending machine, in or next to a trash container

  • Left in a rest room, waiting area, or on a waiting platform

  • An out-of-place fire extinguisher, propane canister, Thermos,…)

  • Unusual wires, batteries, clock or timer visible

  • Do not attempt to touch, move, or cover a suspicious package

Suspicious person: Focus on behavior - not race,
              color or ethnicity:

  • Overdressed for weather conditions
  • Loitering, staring, or watching employees and passengers
  • Pacing, nervous, or jumpy
  • Acting in a disorderly manner, alarming or disturbing others
  • Taking photos of facilities or equipment

Avoid Confrontations:

  • Do not approaching a threatening or dangerous person
  • Do not be confrontational, abusive or offensive
  • Do not hold a person by any means

 

Make notification to the train conductor:
  • Do not be afraid to report something as suspicious even if you are not 100% sure there is a problem – better safe than sorry.
  • Try to keep the suspicious person in sight at all times
  • Observe and report their location, activity, behavior, and physical characteristics
  • (provide picture of a person with desired descriptors)

If an incident occurs (either accidental or man-made):

  • Priority is to the protection of life
  • Assist others
  • Take guidance from the train conductor, and then from Emergency Responders when they arrive:
      • Evacuate to a consolidated area
      • Communicate any injuries you may have incurred
      • Once out – stay out.  Do not return for property
      • Cooperate with potential interviews
      • Identify yourself
