Westchester County Department of Public Safety operates the New
York State Zone 3 Police Training Academy, which serves the law
enforcement communities of Westchester and Putnam Counties. The
Training Academy’s primary function is to provide entry level
and in-service training to police officers and peace officers
within New York State Zone 3.
Police Academy is the focal point of the Training Division and
is located on the grounds of the Grasslands Reservation in the
Hamlet of Valhalla, Town of Mount Pleasant adjacent to the
Department of Emergency Services Fire and EMS training center.

designed to develop or enhance specialized skills, for veteran
police and peace officers
Training Academy also developed an extensive training curriculum
in counter-terrorism and related topics. These courses include:
Basic and Intermediate Incident Command System, Emergency
Response to Biological Incidents, Pre-Incident Indicators of
Terrorism, Managing Civil Actions in Threat Incidents, Basic
Intelligence Officers Awareness, Fraudulent Documents,
Commercial Vehicle Awareness, Weapons of Mass Destruction
Awareness and Tactical Operations.
Westchester County Police Academy has a long-standing tradition
of conducting training for members of the area's law enforcement
agencies. The Academy offers a wide array of courses on a
variety of topics throughout the year. The curriculum
varies from a Basic Course For Police Officers (Recruit School)
to specialized in-service training for veteran officers.
