“HAIR-RAISING” EVENTS THIS OCTOBER AT LASDON PARK

Say “Trick or Treat!” at the door of the Main House at Lasdon Park, Arboretum & Veterans Memorial and you’ll get a lot more than candy as the park presents its annual Halloween Display & Lionel Train Show, on Saturdays and Sundays in October, along with a special costume party at the park in Somers.

Visitors of all ages will be treated to “The House on Haunted Hill” train display which features a replica of Lasdon’s own Main House. There will also be a Little Show of Horrors display featuring “Audrey 2,” Lasdon’s own tribute to this ravenous plant from this Broadway musical, along with exhibits inspired by the film.

A botanical art exhibit featuring works by students at the arboretum will also be on view throughout the month, and the Garden Shop will be open during all events for visitors to get a head-start on their holiday shopping.

The Halloween Display and Train Show will be on view Saturdays and Sundays, October 17 & 18, 24 & 25, 31 & November 1, 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. Suggested donation to the show is $5 for adults and $2 for children 2 to 12 years old.

The month’s spooky activities will climax with the annual Halloween Hair-Raiser Costume Party and Reception, on Friday, October 30, 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. The event will feature a light fare of wine, beer and hors d’oeuvres and live music by the Gerard Carelli Orchestra, along with stargazing through telescopes with the Westchester Amateur Astronomers Club. Dress up in your “spooky best” as there will be prizes for the best costumes, however, costumes are optional. Winners will receive a pair of tickets to the Broadway show Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps. Reservations must be made by October 25 by calling Ted Kozlowski at (914) 864-7268 or via email at ttk2@westchestergov.com. Admission for the Hair-Raiser Costume Party and Reception is $30 per person (all ages).

The Lasdon Halloween events are sponsored by Westchester County Parks, Friends of Westchester County Parks, Inc. and Friends of Lasdon Park and Arboretum, Inc. Additional sponsorship is provided by American Petroleum Equipment and Construction Company, and Broadway’s longest running comedy, The 39 Steps. All proceeds from these events will benefit Lasdon’s Glass House Conservatory Project.
