Single Homeless Assessment Center

The Single Homeless Assessment Center provides Bio-Psycho-Social assessment and referral to all individuals in the singles shelters of Westchester.  The objective is to help the homeless of Westchester improve their level of functioning.  All homeless adults, who do not have custody of children, applying to open or reopen a public assistance case are assessed.  In addition, all those who remain homeless are re-evaluated periodically

How Does It Work?

Located on the grounds of the Westchester County Airport, The Single Homeless Assessment Center is a collaborative effort of three County agencies: The Department of Social Services, The Department of Health and The Department of Community Mental Health.  Each homeless individual is evaluated for their physical and mental health needs, and their ability to participate in the county’s ‘Pride in Work’ program.  The results of these evaluations are shared with the entire team and a plan is developed.  If treatment is needed, referrals are made and appointments are scheduled before the person leaves the assessment center.  All results and treatment recommendations are shared with the person by a clinician.
