Speaking Out About Autism
April has been designated National Autism Awareness Month and provides the perfect opportunity for individuals and organizations across the nation to educate their communities about autism. Please be sure to visit the What is Autism? page.

To help our families,  I have created an Autism Advisory Council of parents and professionals to advise me on what new services are needed and to identify funding sources. (Read more about this and see list of members.)

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) estimates that 0.2 % to 0.6% of the population is diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)

each year.  Autism  is the largest growing developmental disability in the nation.  Westchester County’s prevalence in the adult and child population is between 3,700 and 5,500; or in the under-18 population alone, 900 to 1,400.
