The Department performs thousands of  inspections and site visits of outdoor swimming pools, bathing beaches, indoor swimming pools and spas to assure safe and clean water for swimming each year.

Some beaches OPEN beginning Memorial Day Weekend for the season - check Westchester County Beaches for the phone number of the beach you're interested in.

Beach opening/closing information is available here, Monday thru Friday.  For information on weekend public health-related  beach closures, you may want to check information on our Public Health  Emergency and Information Line at (914) 813-5000 or check with the beach itself..

Beaches closed due to excessive rainfall:
Based on studies by the Westchester County Department of Health, heavy rainfalls in the watershed of the Mamaroneck River greatly impact the quality of water in the Mamaroneck Harbor.  Echo Bay in New Rochelle is similarly affected impacting Hudson Park Beach and Echo Bay Yacht Club.

Threshold levels have been established to promote a guide for the closing of beaches located within the protected area of these harbors.  The beaches receiving the greatest impact are:
Beaches within Mamaroneck Harbor:
1. Harbor Island
2. Beach Point Club
3. Mamaroneck Beach & Yacht Club
4. Shore Acres Pt. Club
5. Orienta Beach Club
Beaches open water Rye:
1. Coveleigh Club
Beaches Davenport Neck, New Rochelle:
1. Davenport Club
2. Greentree Club
Beaches within Echo Bay, New Rochelle:
1. Echo Bay Yacht Club
2. Hudson Park Beach

Rainfall/Closure levels are as follows:
Inches of rain on watershed
Greater than 1/2 inch of rain = 1 day closure
Greater than 1inch of rain = 2 day closure
Greater than 2 inches of rain = to be determined

If you plan on going to any of these beaches after a rainfall, check to make sure they are open by calling  the beach.
