The Westchester County Department of Health TeenAWARE program is a
community-based program to prevent teen pregnancy. Peer educators and health
educators deliver educational workshops and design activities throughout
Westchester County to delay onset of youth sexual activity and to promote
overall healthy lifestyle decision-making by youth.
The program, a collaboration with
WestCOP
and
Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic,
provides workshops to youth, ages 12-19 years old, at schools, community
centers, residential facilities and other venues where youth congregate.
Workshop topics include: pregnancy prevention, HIV and STD prevention,
substance use prevention, sexuality and healthy relationships, career
development/job internships, healthy nutrition and physical activity.
Separate workshops specific for teenage males are also conducted, as are
workshops for parents to promote parent-teen communication.
For more information on the TeenAWARE program or to schedule a TeenAWARE
workshop for your school or organization, please contact Westchester County
Department of Health at (914) 813-5000.
