FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 25, 2000

Due to weather conditions, ground spraying for mosquitoes may not be completed in the communities that are scheduled to be sprayed tonight. Area that are not completely sprayed tonight, Tuesday, July 25, 2000, will be sprayed tomorrow night, Wednesday, July 26, 2000 between the hours of 11:30 pm and 4:30 am.  This information will be updated tomorrow morning.

Communities scheduled for spraying tonight, July 25, 2000, between 11:30 pm and 4:30 am are Yonkers, Greenburgh (unincorporated portion), Village of Ardsley, Village of Elmsford, White Plains, City of Rye, Harrison, Mamaroneck Village, North Salem and Somers.  The ground spraying will be conducted by trucks that are equipped with foggers.  Municipal officials will be arranging for local police to escort the ground spraying crews during application to ensure that all neighborhoods are adequately covered.

The ground spraying will be done with Anvil, which is one of the safest pesticides available for this purpose.  The ingredients in Anvil are commonly used and found in products that combat fleas and ticks on pets.  When Anvil is used to combat West Nile virus, it is used in very low concentrations, and most people will not experience any irritating effects so long as they are not normally sensitive to pesticides, plant pollen, hairspray, petroleum solvents or household cleaning products.
