The Westchester County Department of Health is a community of professional public health workers who help you and your family enjoy better health.  We protect and promote the health of the public through prevention, prolonging meaningful life and providing leadership in health crises.

Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Program
Community-based; working with Mt. Vernon and Yonkers

All Kids Health Care
Free or low-cost health insurance for all children and teens under 19 years of age.
Animal Disease Control

Asbestos Program

Breast Health Services
Low cost/ no cost mammograms, free breast examination and free instruction in breast self-examination, targeted at women aged 40 and over.
Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program
Lead screening for children under 6 years of age; case management of lead poisoned children; lead hazard abatement.
Colorectal Cancer Screening and Prostate Cancer Education Program for men and women over age 50.
Communicable Disease Control
Communicable disease surveillance and investigation, guidelines, outbreak control, and education.
Complaint Bureau (914-813-5000)
Responds to public health complaints 24 hours a day and provides public health information.

Early Intervention Program
Family-centered therapeutic and support services for infants and toddlers under age three with developmental delays.

Flu and Pneumococcal Vaccine Clinics
Free or low cost clinics annually throughout the County for County residents.

Food Service Establishment Program
Inspections, permits, complaint investigations, foodborne illness prevention, plan reviews.

Hazardous Materials Response
Emergency incident response, complaint investigations, hazardous waste site investigations, hazard assessment and chemical substance information.

Health Information and Communication
Public health information development and distribution to residents to promote healthy lifestyles and assure a safer environment.

Healthy Beginnings
Prenatal care referrals and assistance to families with children under one year of age; providing /assuring needed services for a healthy beginning.

Healthy Heart Program
Worksite wellness information and intervention to promote heart healthy lifestyles.

Healthy Neighborhoods
Environmental and personal health assessment; referral and follow-up

HIV/AIDS Counseling and Testing
Free and confidential counseling and testing; health education.

HIV Partner Notification Program
Assists medical providers and their patients in notifying partners about potential HIV exposure; referrals to community services.

Home Health Agency
Nursing, physical therapy, speech and occupational therapy, medical social work, home health aides, medical equipment.

Housing
Complaint investigations regarding lack of heat, insect pests, structural problems and rodent control.

Immunization Service
Free immunizations for children from birth to age 21 to prevent childhood diseases.

Individual Sewage Disposal Systems and Individual Well Water Supply Systems
Permits, inspections, construction complaint investigations, plan reviews.

Infant Child Health Assessment Program (ICHAP)
Free home visits for infants and toddlers under 3 at risk for developmental delay

Injury Control
Public education and intervention to promote safe and healthful behaviors

Nutrition Services
Nutrition information available by phone; consultations for community agencies.

Petroleum Bulk Storage (PBS)
Monitoring, testing, registration, and enforcement of PBS tanks. 

Physically Handicapped Children's Program
Financial assistance for medical care and support services for children with severe health problems and chronic disabilities.

Perinatal Outreach and Education Program
Outreach and referral to encourage early and continuous prenatal care.

Preschool Education Program
Services such as speech therapy, physical therapy and special education for children three to five years old with developmental disabilities.

Rabies Prevention and Treatment
Physician assessment of animal exposures 24 hours a day/7 days a week; preventive treatment following exposure; low-cost rabies vaccination clinics for dogs and cats; rabies testing of suspect animals; education

Radiological Health
X-ray facility inspections, complaint investigations.

Realty Subdivisions
Inspections, complaint investigations, plan reviews, septic and sewer approval.

Refuse Vehicles
Vehicle inspections and permits for operators of garbage, refuse and meat waste haulers.

West Nile Virus Information Line
Educational information; human cases, dead bird and mosquito breeding site reporting; ground spraying schedules and information at (914) 813-5609.

WIC Program
Supplemental food, nutrition education and referrals for health care for eligible pregnant and breastfeeding women and for infants and children to age five.

Women's Cancer Screenings
Cancer screening for women ages 40 and over; pap smears.
