"Getting In Touch with
Westchester County"
Hello and welcome to Westchester County, New
York, the very best of urban and country America. Westchester is known throughout the
world for its many attributes: rich history, charming villages, cultural diversity,
picturesque views, clean environment, bustling urban centers and thriving economy.
With thousands of acres of county parkland,
numerous hiking and mountain biking trails, wildlife preserves, arts and cultural events,
beaches and our very own historic amusement park, there are countless activities to enjoy.
The county government also owns and operates a
newly modernized regional commuter airport, a nationally accredited community college, an
award-winning public transportation system and the Westchester County Center, a large
public assembly and meeting facility. With an annual budget of more than $1 billion,
county government provides many important services ranging from public health protection
to road and bridge repair, police patrols to cultural programs and municipal planning. Our
sound fiscal policies earn us the highest possible bond ratings and help hold the line on
property taxes.
With the historic Hudson River to the west, the
Long Island Sound to the east, and numerous lakes and streams, our county is abundant in
natural resources. And with access to major highways and parkways and commuter rail lines,
its easy to see why nearly 900,000 people and more than 20 Fortune 500 companies
call Westchester home.
I hope you enjoy exploring Westchester County!
