The
Westchester County Department of Human Resources
The Department of Human Resources provides information on current openings with County
government, civil service exams and general employment
information.
Westchester/Putnam One Stop Employment Centers
The
county's One Stop centers offer job training and resume
workshops, as well as a resource library. Click
here for more information and locations. Businesses use
the center to recruit, screen and interview candidates for
openings in their respective companies and to gather
relevant labor market information.
The National Urban League:
Career Center
The Urban League is
one of the nation's oldest and largest organizations
dedicated to the empowerment of African Americans through
economic self-sufficiency.
This
website includes a career center with job
listings and a place to post your resume.

Collegian
The
Black Collegian provides a myriad of career
resources including job search strategies, graduate school
opportunities and career and industry reports.
HOUSING
The
Westchester County Department of Planning
County Executive Spano has launched a campaign to
build more affordable housing in Westchester.

Residential Opportunities
This
non-profit offers homelessness prevention services, utility
shut-off prevention, information on available rentals and
subsidies, mortgage default counseling and counseling on

The
Westchester County Department of Health created a web site
dedicated to addressing health issues specific to

Unites States Department of Health and Human Services,
Office of Minority Health (OMH)
This
web site includes information about OMH's programs which are
geared towards improving the health of racial and ethnic
populations through the development of effective health
policies and programs that help to eliminate disparities in
health.

Minority Health Professions Foundation
(MHPF)
is a nonprofit educational, scientific and charitable
501(c)(3) organization that provides support for
professional education, research and community service that
promote optimum health among poor and minority people.

Diabetes Association
Approximately
2.8 million or 13% of all African Americans have diabetes.
The American Diabetes Association, the nation’s leading
voluntary health organization concerned with diabetes and
its complications, has developed a community-based program
to address the challenge of diabetes in the African American
community.

Heart Association
According
to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the leading
cause of deaths for African Americans. This website provides information
on how to reduce
disability and death from cardiovascular diseases and live a
healthier lifestyle.
American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society is a nationwide
community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to
eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing
cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer,
through research, education, advocacy, and service.
American
Lung Association
ALA
today fights lung disease in all its forms, with special
emphasis on asthma, tobacco control and environmental
health. ALA's advocacy programs seek to influence the
development and enforcement of laws and regulations related
to lung health at the national, state and local levels,
providing authoritative information to policymakers.

resources, financial assistance and a wide range of related
services and incentives to help businesses prosper in

Westchester County Minority- and Women-Owned Business
Program
This site offers crucial
information regarding pre-qualifying your business as a
minority- or women -owned business, as well as information
on how to bid on contracts.

American Chamber of Commerce of Westchester
The African American Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary
organization of individuals and businesses who work together
to advance the commercial, financial, industrial and civic
interest of the community. It is a civic clearinghouse, a
public relations counselor and a legislative representative at
the local, state and national levels of government. The
African American Chamber is an information bureau and a
research/promotional medium.
